I wanted to find out how many words were in my favourite book Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I decided to count the words on 5 pages, then add the numbers together and divide by 5 to find the average number of words per page. I would then multiply this by the number of pages in the book- 217. There were 116, 95, 95, 128 and 86 words on the pages. That adds up to 520 words. 520 divided by 5 is 104. 217 x 100 is 21700, plus the 4 other pages (4 x 104 = 416). The total number of words in my favourite book is 21700 + 416 = 22116 words. That's a lot of words!
