In school, I was learning how to scale, gut and fillet a locally caught fish for our sustainable food topic. I was wondering are there enough fish left in the sea for us to keep catching them and how do we know? Overfishing is a big problem and we are running out of fish. But it is very difficult to count the fish in the sea because the numbers change and we can't easily count them. Scientists use maths to count fish. They use GPS sensors on fish, submarines, satellites and drones to count fish, and are even using lasers and AI to find out the numbers. We need the data from all this maths so we can know how many fish are left in the sea.
