On Islay, we have lots of fishing boats that catch mostly crab and lobster. There is lots of maths involved in fishing for a job; you need to know the tides and the wind speed, you need to know prices for your catch and how much it weighs, to measure the size of the lobsters so not too small, amount and cost of fuel for each trip, interest repayments on your boat, how much bait you need, depth of the water when you put out the creels and length of the rope. But you never know what you will get in your catch…
