Guitar (the 'why' of shapes)

alt text
The shape of everything on a guitar has a purpose. strings are straight until they’re strum or plucked, then they vibrate as sine waves. The body of the guitar is specially shaped to allow the sound waves to resonate inside. The shape of the hole is not important โ€” it’s just there to let the sound out. A circle for this is the simplest shape mathematically, and looks the neatest.
