Maths plays a major role in the shipping and boating industry. When boats and ships are designed and built, engineers use maths to calculate various things such as buoyancy, engine specifications and fuel requirements. Maths is also very important in navigating the sea. Ancient explorers used basic maths to travel across oceans to different lands.

Nowadays, maths is used in sonar, radar and GPS navigation systems.
