Measuring the Speed of a River (In The Wild)

I put a stick in the water and measured how long it would take to get from point A to point B. I then calculated the time and distance to get speed. For example, if the distance was 2 meters, and it took 15 seconds to get from point A to point B and then I would divide them together. 2 divided by 15 is 0.1333, so the speed of the object would have been 0.133 meters per second (0.133mps). In my case, the distance between point A and point B was 13 meters, and It took 12 seconds to get there, so therefore that makes the speed of the river 1.08333333 meters per second (mps).
