A Wrapper Made from Potatoes, Really? (Climate Change)

I took this photo of a wrapper which came off a magazine. The wrapper is made from potatoes which I found interesting. I did some research and found out that synthetic plastics were first invented in 1907. From bags to milk containers to farming and transport, it is everywhere and is useful and convenient. But it is almost indestructible and is filling the Earth's oceans, being a real threat to marine life. About 4.8 to 12.7 million tonnes enter the ocean each year. In 2016 the UK 3.7 million metric tons of plastic waste, two thirds was shipped abroad without any recycling guarantees. Of this 700,000 metric tons of plastic film are produced in the UK each year. A UK newspaper says it used 25 tonnes each year for wrapping its newspapers. They now use Bioplast300 made from potato waste sourced from the European food industry. Readers are encouraged to compost the wrapping or put in the food bin, as it is 100% biodegrable. We all need to play our part to care for our earth, our oceans and marine life. Today I learned a wrapper can be made from potatoes. What change can you make today to cut your use of plastic?
