alt text
When we go walking and climbing in the mountains we use maths to navigate using maps and a compass. The lines on the map show the height of the hills. The difference between the thin lines is 15 metres and the difference between the thick lines is 75 metres. When the lines get closer together we know that the hill is steeper. Using the scale of the map and the compass we can measure how far we need to travel to get to the top.
