This is the clock at Glasgow Central Station. Clocks are divided into 12 hours and 60 minutes as those numbers are easy to divide into smaller numbers and have a lot of factors, such as 6,4, 3, and 2 for 12 and 30, 20, 15, 12, 10, 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2 for 60. The railways are closely linked to clocks because before the railways clocks simply observed local time, whereas now due to the need for national unity and standardisation brought by the railway time is collected into time zones, with all of the UK using time at Greenwich in London. clocks also play a big part in the railway, ensuring everything is on time and running smoothly.
