Spherical Buoy (the 'why' of shapes)

alt text
On our boat journey we spotted buoys of all shapes, sizes and colours. Spheres, cylinders and pyramids. They marked out a route on the water like a map. Does the shape make it float better we wondered. The cylinders certainly tipped more in the wind. The sphere seemed more stable. The colour certainly impacted on how well we could see it. We liked the yellow sphere buoy. It was like the sun particularly when the sun seemed absent from the sky that day!
