I have my own beehive and keep my own bees. This is a picture of some honeycomb made by my bees- you can see the hexagon shapes that make it up. This is where the honey is stored for feeding the grubs. Bees make their combs as hexagons because it does not take up a lot of space and it does not use a lot of wax and if they join them together there is no gaps โ€” they tessellate. Honeycomb is three dimensional.
