In this photo, there is a tiny blue sea slug, called polycera quadrilineata, can you spot it? It is really pretty and moves by wiggling its frills, the shape of which are designed to move well through water. I was wondering if there was any maths behind sea slugs. I went online and found that scientists have looked at the geometry of sea slugs and how they move using their frills. Scientists say the maths behind the way they move could be used as a model for designing a soft bodied robot. I think this is cool, because using the different features of animals to design robots shows that nature is a great mathematician.
